peer evaluation: joanna barker.

I've evaluated Joanna Barker's blog, All The World's a Stage, which focuses on women and Shakespeare.
Listed below are the criteria for our class's blog evaluations, and my comments for each item.

Posts.

  • Quantity. As of now, Joanna has thirty-five blog posts, nearly half of which are related to her main focus. It seems that she does indeed have a sufficient amount of posts relevant to her research.
  • Content. Most of Joanna's posts are long and very thorough. She seems to have covered a lot of material and has a good variety of content. Joanna also uses a fair amount of images that are relevant to the particular post.
  • Format. Joanna makes good use of her titles: all of them are directly related to the main topic of the post and give the reader a good idea of what to expect. Joanna could use the jump break feature more frequently, especially since she has many longer posts. Joanna also makes good use of her tags, which was especially helpful to me in navigating through her blog to see the posts that were most relevant to her main research.
Research.
  • Thematic focus. I've followed Joanna's blog this entire semester, and I feel like all along it has been clear to me, as a viewer, where Joanna has been going as far as her research is concerned.
  • Thesis and cohesion. Joanna states very clearly what her thesis is in her hub post, and she also refers back to several of her previous blogs, making a nice web of information that is available to the viewers of her blog.
  • Sources. Joanna has found several sources that she has used for her research. They can all be found on her sources page, and she even goes as far as to organize which blog cited which source! I think that's a great use of the sources page, and wish that I had notice that sooner so that I could have done that to my blog as well!
Personal and Social.
  • Author identity. Looking at Joanna's blog, I feel that there is enough personal information on her "About Me" widget that it doesn't distract or give away too much personal information. I'm always afraid to providing too much personal data, but I think she did it just right.
  • Documentation of process. I feel that Joanna's posts are very conversational, which aids in letting the reader in on her research process and what she plans on doing. Joanna also asks a lot of questions in her blogs, which is again why they feel so conversational, and help make her blog feel more like a record of her progress, which is great!
  • Interactions. Once again, Joanna's blog is very conversational allowing viewers to feel more comfortable interacting with her, and she in turn was respectful and responded back to others' inquiries or comments that were left on her posts.
Design.
  • The design of Joanna's blog is very clean and simple, which is great because it's easy to navigate through older posts and to see more clearly the organization of her topics and her research.
